Jun 17: Raids to Mont Saint Michel

We had about 100km to ride to drop into Mont Saint Michel from Raids, and we were excited to get started. We got an early start from our B&B with wheels rolling by 7:30am. The route quickly followed a beautiful bike path meandering through farms, then followed sign-posted back roads for a bit. The region is clearly popular for touring cyclists, which was a nice change of pace from the prior few days.

We grabbed a quick lunch from a sidewalk sausage stand (clearly the choice of the locals) in the Medieval town of Avranches, then descended to the coast to Mont Saint Michel.

We got to our campsite with enough time to shower and get to the abbey just in time before it closed. It’s a stunning complex of buildings constructed over 700 years. The oldest room in the tour was built in the early 11th century! Highly recommended for any trip to western France.
