Caitlin’s dad heard the call of the Ventoux, and flew out to join the adventure for a week.
We opted for a ride with a good amount of gentle climbing to wake up the legs, before we tackled the giant of Provence. If you find yourself in Europe, Michellin Maps are a must. An old school paper map will not do you wrong in finding scenic routes. The marked Gorges de la Nesque road did not disapoint! It wound through the gorge, tunneled through notches in the rock, and climbed though Pine forest. The top of the gorge had a killer view of the gleaming white limestone beacon that is the peak of Ventoux. Then we descended to the lavender-filled valley near Sault and climbed once more before hit a very fun but extremely bumpy descent back to our hotel in Bedoin.
The legs were sufficiently roused from a rest week for us and a transatlantic flight for week. It was an incredible welcome to Provence ride.
