Caitlin’s bike chain was in dire need of cleaning and oil after the torrential downpour in Seyssel, so we decided to take it to a bike shop in Lausanne in the morning. It was an interesting shop. It had a bunch of good reviews and was a large store, but 90% of the bikes were electric. Fortunately we were persuaded to trade on our bikes for an (expensive) upgrade.
We had been discussing visiting Bern, which wasn’t previously on our itinerary (and a little out of our way), so we decided to take a train there from Lausanne and spend the following day exploring. Then we would bike to Interlaken.
The train ride was, unsurprisingly, beautiful as it climbed out of the Lac Lemon valley and over some rolling hills into Bern.
We walked around the Medieval heart of the city, exploring the historic government buildings, bridges, rose garden, and an open air market. It was a nice and relaxing visit. Tomorrow, to Interlaken!
