Today’s 60km from Arnhem to Utrecht was almost exactly as we were hoping – well-paved, beautiful bike paths leading us the entire way through forests and quaint small Dutch towns. The only surprise of the day was the semblance of “hills” (still relatively minor) in southern Holland near Arnhem. Not used to those in the low country!
Occasionally the paved bike path would parallel a dirt road intended for cars, which we found entertaining. We stopped for a quick lunch but arrived in Utrecht with enough time to do laundry one last time, explore the sites, and get dinner.
Also as expected, Utrecht was gorgeous. The downtown canal section was lively for a Friday night and we managed to find an open table for dinner right on the water. We were very happy about deciding to stop there for the night, but still looking forward to Amsterdam tomorrow!
