Jun 19: To Angers

It was our second or third straight day of 95+ degree heat, and it was definitely starting to take a toll. We only decided to go ~85km to a campsite south of Angers since we needed to replace Caitlin’s wheel and get a few new tubes. We left Chateau-Grontier around 11:00am after a new wheel, finishing up laundry (we mistranslated the sign and got locked out the night before with our wet clothes in the wash…), and cleaning our bikes in a self-service car wash.

The Mayenne route took us down to Angers where it intersected with the famous Loire bike path. The Loire route has ~800km of trail stretching from Nantes to Nevers, mostly following the river.

We found a campsite just south of Angers and waited eagerly for the heat to subside. Even at 10pm, it was still above 90 degrees so we slept without our rain fly. This cooled our tent down but it was still a bit unpleasant. Even still, we were at a nice campground and were happy to be on the Loire route.
